The bed was comfortable and the ensuite large. There were nice little touches such as toiletries, tissues and bottled water in the room in addition to the tea and coffee making facilities. It was also quiet despite being over the bar.

We ate in the pub that evening. The pub is 400 years old and luckily not been ripped out and made into some horrible corporate bland chain pub. They were really welcoming to us and our dog and we were able to take him anywhere. The food was superb. The portions were very large and all beautifully cooked and presented. It was worth staying just for the food. Breakfast was huge and similarly cooked with care using locally sourced ingredients such as the sausages. The food was so good that after going for a walk we returned for Sunday lunch at £10 per head. We had lamb which was melt in the mouth and had virtually no fat.
All in all fantastic value for money stay and a must for foodies.
