We are so proud to be situated in the foothills of the Quantocks. Designated one of the country’s first Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956, it truly is a beautiful part of the countryside, ideal for walking – with or without your canine friends! – mountain biking, horse riding or just exploring. Most of our staff have lived in the area for a long time and are very knowledgeable with regard to the best routes for you to find the best of the area.
We are very dog friendly at The Carew and we are pleased to extend our welcome to well-behaved dogs throughout the pub and restaurant. We are also happy for your dogs to stay with you, and ask only a small charge for additional cleaning in return. Water bowls are always available.
If you love to cycle, you will find us the ideal base for exploring. We have the facility to safely store your bikes when not in use, and have a pressure washer for when you can no longer see what colour your bike was! Please just let us know when booking your accommodation, and we will arrange.
If you like to ride on four legs, not two wheels, then we have a number of options for horse riding. From pre-arranged tours to individual lessons, there are several local providers who can offer the opportunity to discover the Quantocks at a more leisurely pace. Please just ask. If you care to follow the local hunt, you will find the Quantock Stag Hounds in the field outside the pub for their Opening and Closing Meets, and also for their Boxing Day Meet which is also very popular. We also host the West Somerset Foxhounds and details of their Meets can be found on our Blog and on their website.
